among the panel members. Only after the members have been given the opportunity to openly voice their opinions is the issue of the finding of the Judicial Evaluation Committee put to a vote. The purpose of explaining the process of the Judicial Evaluation Committee in this column is to exemplify the hard work and effort that is put into ensuring that the judiciary our community most interacts with is of the highest caliber. The findings of the committee are published on the CBA website. I encourage each of our readers to utilize this invaluable resource during future elections. It is equally important to spread the message to our fellow citizens outside the legal community, so that voters make informed decisions when filling out their ballots.

A candidate is then advised of the pro- cedures to be employed at the hearing and questioned at length by the chair in regard to abilities, experience, perceived strengths and weaknesses and, where appropriate, specific problems disclosed in the inves- tigation. Members of the panel are then given the opportunity to ask questions of the candidate. Following the conclu- sions of questions, the candidate has an opportunity to make any statement he or she chose on his or her own behalf. Once the candidate is excused from the hearing room, the chair then opens the floor to discussion of the candidate’s qualifications
