Our Coast, Our Waterways The Hawkesbury–Nepean river system is one of the Central Coast’s most cherished natural environments, supporting diverse ecosystems, cultural connections and recreation. Working with the NSW Government, six councils have developed a coordinated Coastal Management Program covering 145km of tidal waterways from Broken Bay to Yarramundi, including Pittwater and Brisbane Water. This shared approach strengthens how the river is cared for across council boundaries. Mayor Lawrie McKinna said the program unites councils with one goal — protecting the waterways that flow through all our communities, including Brisbane Water, Broken Bay, Umina, Pearl Beach, Patonga and Mangrove Creek.
