TOREROS RUNNER- UP AT wees Battling without top-ranked Jose Luis Noriega, USO finished second to Pepperdine for the second straight year. In the final team standings the Waves compiled 111 points, well above the 60 posted by the Toreros. All four semifi– nalists were from Pepperdine, as were the two doubles finalists. Five of six Torero singles entrants advanced to the third round. Only Olle Pierrou, who, in the first round defeated Ryan Blair of Santa Clara 6-1, 6-4, lost in the second round. In the round of 16 Bradley defeated Dave Matisons of Santa Clara 6-0, 6-3; Martinez defeated St. Mary's Chris Sindel 6-0, 6-2; Charles Auffray of Pepperdine defeated Seward 6-0, 6-4; Ashley Naumann of Pepperdine defeated Huarte 6-1, 6-1; and Vince Mackey of Pepperdine defeated Axsater 6-1, 7-5. In the quarters Bradley fell to Pep's Howard Joffe 6-1, 6-4 and Martinez lost to Auflray 7-5, 7-5 In doubles the team of Bradley-Hofmann made it to the semifinals before losing to Pepperdine's Mackey and Joffe. Final team standings: Pepperdine 111 , San Diego 60, St. Mary's 35, Portland 28, Santa Clara 23, USF 20, LMU 13 and Gonzaga 5.
