WORKING IN EXTREME COLD

EN 342

EN342 protection against cold is the most comprehensive standard test method for clothing designed to protect you in cold conditions. The principle test uses a heated manikin, a thermal insulation value is determined from the power required to maintain the manikin at a constant temperature. This value is used to classify the performance of the garment. This insulation value of the clothing, the activity level of the wearer and the temperature of the environment can be used to estimate the maximum duration of wear. Clothing that meets the requirement of EN342 will have this pictogram on the label. EN 342 STANDARD AND THERMAL MANIKIN TESTING 0.433

EN342 - RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM CONTINUOUS WEARING TIME The below diagrams shows the length of time and the temperature at which the garment can be worn, maintaining wearer comfort at a particular activity level. Resultant effective thermal insulation of clothing Iclear, and ambient temperature conditions for heat balance at different durations of exposure.
