In 2014, the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album became his for Unorthodox Jukebox, and in 2016, the Grammy Award for Record of the Year was presented to Uptown Funk. That same year, he also won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year as producer for The Smeezingtons’ album 25. The production team Mars created, The Smeezingtons, also includes Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. Truly Impressive Mars’s songs stand on their own as major achievements, but the sheer number of nominations and awards he’s received is extraordinarily rare for such a young music artist. The level of success he has gained for a singer in his early thirties caused an uproar in some

corners of the music industry. At the 2013 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards), Kanye West claimed that Mars’s feats were a product of music industry manipulation designed to get people to vote for the “prettiest”musician.
