City of Stirling Handy Services Guide

• Help foster a sense of community pride and ownership of streetscapes • Raise community awareness about the many and varied benefits of street trees to our wellbeing • Strengthen community relationships and encourage positive discussion around how we can work together in a better way to create liveable, healthy and sustainable communities. From April (the start of the City’s winter planting season) through to September, a series of planned Community Tree Planting Events will take place across the City. These events rely heavily on the support of local residents and volunteers. In its five years, the Community Tree Planting Program has planted over 6,000 street trees. Join the program by becoming a Volunteer Tree Captain or Volunteer Tree Planter. For more information, please contact the Customer Contact Centre. Street trees Street trees are an important part of every community and are one of our City’s most important assets. An avenue of street trees increase property values by over $16,000, reduce ambient temperature by several degrees and make Stirling a more liveable City. The City has approximately 105,000 street trees, but these only cover around one third of all street verges.  The City is responsible for the pruning and maintenance of its street trees to ensure their long term survival. If a verge tree requires pruning please contact the City’s Customer Contact Centre to submit a request. Residents are not permitted to remove street trees from verges surrounding their property. To check if a street tree can be removed, please submit a written request detailing the reason for removal, to the City via the online enquiry form on the City’s website.
