Happy Thanksgiving! About the Calendar

T he Calendar is published monthly by the Chebeague Island Council. It is available on-line at Chebeague Island News (www.chebeague.org) or www. chebeagueislandcalendar.com and delivered to every active mail box on the island. The Calendar welcomes submissions from its readers, including letters and thank you notes, but it cannot publish anything that is political in nature, libelous, or obscene. All submissions should include the author’s name and contact information. Without exception, the deadline for submissions is noon on the 20 th day of the month preceding publication. Submissions and ad copy may be mailed (247 South Road), left at the Council office (on 247 South Road) or emailed (chebeagueislandcouncil@gmail.com) and sent as attachments (.doc; no pdfs) or included in the body of the text. Images and photographs should be sent in a .jpg, .jpeg, or .rtf format. Please do not use the old email address at as this is an inactive account. As a courtesy and space permitting, island nonprofits are given up to a free half page each month to publish their news. Any such submissions exceeding a half page will be charged at the usual rate. All submissions become the property of the Chebeague Island Council, which reserves the right to edit them for length and clarity. Submissions that are not time sensitive may be held until there is enough space to publish them. Additional information about submissions is available at www.chebeagueislandcalendar.com. Advertising rates are as follows: full page, $80, ½ page, $40; ¼ page, $20; 4-line classified, $10; 6 to 8 line classified, $15. Each submission should include the intended publication date, size wanted, and the number of months the ad should run. All ads must be paid for at the time of submission.

Notes From The Council

N ovember is the month of Thanksgiving, and we are so very thankful for the volunteers and donors who help the Council serve the community of Chebeague Island.

• Thank you to the volunteers representing the non-profits across the island who took on summertime shifts at the Chedemption Shed. Not only does this program keep bottles and cans out of the waste stream, it also raises money that is then returned to the non-profits. The Bagettes continue to collect and sort bottles in the off season and haul them down to Chandler’s weekly. • Thank you to the generous donors who continue to give to the Fuel Assistance and Good Samaritan Fund. We are ready to help neighbors keep warm through the winter with confidential heating assistance. Thanks to generous donations we continue to host Flu/COVID clinics, the annual Health Fair, special workshops, and visiting doctors and nurses. • Keep an eye out for our annual membership and donation appeal later this month.

• Thank you to the Chebeague Transportation Company for its donation of ferry tickets for us to distribute to neighbors requiring ongoing medical treatment on the mainland. • Thank you to the School House Seconds volunteers who sort, process, and sell donated items for reuse on the island, thereby keeping those items out of the waste stream. The items not sold are then packed up and shipped to the mainland for distribution to those in need. The proceeds from School House Seconds are then used to fund many of the Council’s programs. • Thanks to the volunteers who keep Wednesday Soup going throughout the colder months. Setting up the Hall, cooking soup, baking desserts, and cleaning up are efforts that help our neighbors enjoy delicious food and good company.

The Chebeague Island Council is here to help. If you have an idea of how we can do more to support our neighbors, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know.

Christopher Runge 9/4/1971 - 9/23/2026 I have, and I’m sure I speak for his mother, always felt that Chebeague was a very special place. That I was so privileged to be able to call it my home. With the sudden and unexpected passing of my son and buddy Chris I also realize even more how blessed I am to have you as my friends and neighbors. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing in my pain and for offering your heartfelt condolences, your hugs, and voicing your own memories of Chris - his ever present smile, his boundless energy, and his beautiful unaffected soul. Attention Cousins Island Parking Permit Holders! It's time to apply for your 2027 Cousins Island parking permit! Applications will be mailed to current permit holders later this month and will be available on our website beginning November 1. Please remember the following when completing your application: Complete both sides of the application. Include copies of your driver's license and vehicle registration. Sign and date your application. Include a letter explaining any circumstances you would like the Parking Committee to consider. Include payment with your application. An initial payment of $600 may be made, with the remaining balance due March 31, 2027. Please note: Demand for parking at Cousins Island exceeds the number of spaces available. All applications are carefully reviewed in accordance with CTC's parking allocation policies, and meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee that a permit will be issued. We encourage applicants to provide as much relevant information as possible to help the Parking Committee make fair and informed decisions.

2026 Recompense Fund Grants The 2026 Annual Report will be arriving in mailboxes soon, and it features the important and hard work of Chebeague Island’s nonprofits - read and be impressed! Recompense hopes our greater island community will continue supporting the nonprofits, and also welcomes donations to further our work on their behalf.

This year Recompense distributed a remarkable $126,560 to these groups, thanks to the generous support of donors.
