In September 2015 Clapham was named the best place to live in London according to The City Living Survey. More than 12,000 residents were asked to assess their area based on a range of categories including eating and drinking options, family vibe, friendliness and trendiness, and were also asked to consider practical matters including accessibility and affordability.

Housing Market Many Londoners flock to Clapham for its combination of period properties and vibrant atmosphere. There are grand Georgian terraces on Grafton Square and in the Old Town. The area known as Abbeville Village is popular for spacious Victorian architecture but also includes more modest Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses. Young professionals tend to gravitate to the lively Clapham North area whilst the largest houses and flats are usually found closer to Clapham South. Surrounding the Common there are grand period conversions as well as purpose built mansion blocks.

Entertainment The bars and clubs on Clapham’s busy High Street attract people from all over London. There are trendy wine bars, music venues, nightclubs, beer gardens, roof terraces and a fantastic choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Clapham Picturehouse shows independent and mainstream films as well as special screenings and jazz evenings. The Landor Theatre’s location on the first floor of The Landor Pub is regarded as one of the best fringe theatres in London. The Venn Street Market next to Clapham Common Tube station is a great place to go for quality foods and produce. There are a couple of traditional butcher’s shops, an artisan bakery and a wonderful deli. Clapham Leisure Centre has a swimming pool and runs over 50 group exercise classes a week. There is also a well-equipped Soho Gym on the High Street. Transport + Tube: Clapham has three Tube stations (Clapham North, Clapham Common and Clapham South) all in Zone 2 on the Northern Line.
