The University Institute of Theoretical Physics, Blegdams- vej 15, is b uilt by the State, the money having been col lected privately. I t was inaugurated March 1921. The director is the pro fessor, B r. Niels Bohr, profes sor of theoretical physics in the University of Copenhagen. (Nobel Prize 1922). The In stitu te was established, becau se it was recognized, th a t a fertile study of the theoreti cal physics problems hardly is possible except in connec tion with experimental inve stigations, for which, of cour se, a laboratory is necessary, equipped w ith instrum ents, workshop etc. The institu te gives instruc tion to advanced students of physics pt the university. number of Danish and foreign scientists p artly employed at the in stitute, p artly on visit for study are working with experimental investigations, chiefly concerning the compo sition of the atoms. W ith re gard to the experiments, the in stitu te in the first place is adapted to spectroscopic in vestigations of light-rays and Roentgen-rays.
