•Norgesporten« (the Norway-gate) with the old guard buildings. del is an open drill-ground, in the background of which is seen the fine little Citadel• Church (see Chapter 0). Be­ hind its roof an old wind­ mill — the last of the old mills on the walls of the city — picturesquely stretches its wings towards the sky. Clo­ se to the church is an old building, formerly the State- prison, where f. i. Struense was kept imprisoned. The street through the Citadel is formed by the old stocks, now used for barracks, and leads to Norgesporten, the Norway-gate with the old guard-buildings. the idyllic walls, surrounding the whole Citadel, one gets the most beautiful view on the harbour and the Sound. Between the moats towards the West is the fine promena­ de, »Smedelinien«, much fre­ quented by the public. On the place in front of the commandants house the m ilitary orchestra usually plays twice a week on Wed­ nesday and Sunday from 1-2, and each afternoon there is a parade of the soldiers on guard with th e ir\band play­ ing.We leave the Citadel and return to Esplanaden, at the end of which the building of the Hydrographic Office and the Meteorological Institute is si­ tuated (see Chapter 7). To the left we pass the Set. Al- A peculiar peaceful quiet is reigning in the Citadel an the restlessness of the pulsating life from outside is kept away from here. From
