IMPROVING ITS POSITION With the addition of Doosan’s DLA wheel loader series to the range nearly two years ago, Doosan has significantly increased its position in the South African wheel loader market.

still offer reduced fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions. These machines have a smooth 4-gear transmission and clutch cut off via a brake pedal. The transmission has three modes of operation – manual, automatic (automatic shift for all gears) and semi automatic (automatic with a ‘kick down’ for first gear). A large capacity trans- mission oil cooler ensures durable and stable operation of the transmission. The DL300A and DL420A units, which are widely used in local conditions, have the flexi- bility to handle diverse materials, including the loading and transporting of granular materials, as well as bulk loads. The DL300A wheel loader, with an 8 litre Doosan DE08TIS engine (156 kW at 2 100 rpm) engine and the DL420A wheel loader, with an 11 litre Doosan DE12TIS engine (210 kW at 2 100 rpm), have been designed for advanced digging power and high traction for the penetra- tion and handling of even the hardest materials. Metal reinforced brake discs are integrated into the planetary reduction gears in the hubs where the rotation speed is lower. As a result, discs are exposed to lower rpm and heat gener- ation is reduced.

“Doosan, which has beenmanufacturing heavy earthmoving equipment for over 40 years, has an ongoing development programme to manufacture robust machines with advanced design features and high perfor- mance materials, for optimum productivity, reduced running costs and low emissions,” says Rod Watson, managing director, DISA Equipment, trading as Doosan, part of Invicta Holdings Limited. “Doosan earthmoving equipment – which encompasses heavy, wheel and mini excavators, articulated dump trucks (ADT’s), as well as wheel loaders and various attachments – has been designed to cope efficiently and safely in Africa’s harsh operating conditions.” The DLA series, which encompasses four wheel loaders – DL200A, DL250A, DL300A and DL420A – have bucket capacities between 2 m³ and 4,5 m³, with optimised breakout force and machine balance. According to Devin van Zyl, chief exec- utive officer at Lambson’s Hire, the tile cutters are available from key branches TILE CUTTER FOR 1 METRE TILES Lambson’s Hire has introduced the Imer Combi 250-1000VA Lite Tile Saw into its rental fleet and reports that the machines have become very popular because they can cut tiles that are 1 metre wide. The machines can also be easily transported to site. >

A key feature of the Imer Combi 250-1000VA Lite Tile Saw is its compactness which means it is easy to transport. This high capacity machine can cut a range of materials. It has a maximum cutting length of 1 000 mmwith a 66 mm depth in just one pass (105 mm with two passes) facilitating optimum productivity on site. It is equipped with a laser pointer which ensures maximum precision making it easy to use. Features include a gliding cutting head with an adjustable height and a 45° reclining capability which gives greater flexibility.

and making these available is in line with the company’s ongoing strategy of offering special- ised rental equipment to niche sectors of the building industry. He adds that the company is unique in the plant and equipment rental sector in that it offers a range of specialised equipment for hire. “It is important that our customers have access to the latest equipment. We believe it is this approach that attracts repeat customers, as well as fulfilling our brand promise of being able to meet customers’ specific requirements in terms of rental,” Van Zyl comments. There is a distinct trend in all projects, from small residential to large develop- ments, to use much larger tiles. This often poses a problem when it comes to cutting tiles to fit specific spaces. Lambson’s Hire identified the need to make a tile cutter that could copy with large size tiles available. “This trend for larger-sized stone or tile pieces is being driven by architects who require these larger pieces to fit together very snugly for a striking ‘slab-like’ look. This requires accurate, chip-free cutting performance,” Van Zyl says.
