As tourists are able to reach the state more easily, the economy is growing. Visitors come to see the impressive Mayan ruins at Chichén Itzá and Uxmal. Tourists also enjoy the Caribbean beaches and the native handicrafts for sale in open-air markets. Yucatán grows citrus fruit, vegetables, sisal, and cantaloupes. Beekeepers have made the state one of the world’s leading honey producers. Fishing, forestry, industry, and commerce are also beginning to grow in this state.
