How do I know what strain I have? Bacterial Verification
Strain name was written on the vial Performed a PCR‐ confirmed presence/absence of plasmid or gene Performed a phenotypic test‐ Gram stain, motility test, etc. Performed a biochemical test – catalase, oxidase, nitrate reduction etc. NGS data‐ aligned against what standard? BLAST from 16s, gyrB , hsp60 , etc Internal standard in your lab.

Outside of the original publication‐ phenotypic performance is captured in texts, such as Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology ‐ and Bergey’s Manual of Determinative Bacteriology and various peer reviewed publications. Many of the texts only define species. Genetic sequences are captured in various peer reviewed publications and databases. Internal lab standard comparison
