IASA News in Brief

ConnectED grant deadline is July 15 President Obama announced the ConnectED initiative in June 2013, to address the need for schools to incorporate rapid advances in education technology with innovative programs. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been working to make the Schools and Libraries Program - E- Rates - more supportive of the President’s vision. Ten large technology companies announced grant programs in support of ConnectEd. Districts can see The first grant program has a deadline of July 15 th. AT&T is offering $100 million of grants to districts with 2,000 to 4,000 Middle & High School students, more than 50 percent low-income students and at least one dedicated IT support staff per school. Districts do not need to begin formal planning for 2015 E-Rate filings until the detailed changes are announced in Washington DC on September 29 th . IASA members can hear first-hand about ConnectEd and the Schools and Libraries Program - E-Rates - in regional E-Rate workshops beginning October 1.
