New £2 million hub for agricultural innovation

Ralph Dalu BSc Agriculture Student Profile

"The business lectures on my course have inspired me to take a new enterprise back to my home farm in Zimbabwe. I grew up on a beef and arable farm, but chose to do my first work placement on a sheep farm in Scotland. The thrill of something so new was brilliant. I learnt so much and now plan to take it all home and grow my family farm with a sheep farming enterprise. It will give my parents the confidence to venture into new areas of farming."

Our global population is growing fast, with agriculture being among the major industries that needs to change to support this rise. As a specialist land-based educational centre, our role is important. Our new Agri-Tech centre will help create a sustainable future for the next generations. By 2050, there will be 9.7 billion people in the world. That’s an increase of approximately 83 million people each year.* Increased demand for food puts immense pressure on our planet and the agricultural industry. Our new Agri-Tech centre will provide our staff, students and Gloucestershire’s farmers with valuable access to the latest smart farming technologies. The aim is to improve productivity and profitability across the county, with minimal impact on the environment. You’ll be exposed to the latest scientific advances and consider modern-day industry challenges as you work with experts to solve key business decisions. This will help you to gain valuable experience and connections for your career.
