The Chernikhov Prize is incredibly important, because many people are questioning the roles of architecture, the direction of architecture, what architecture should be, what sould be the society, the culture today. To question is chalengeous. It means in a way you are working outside of the norm and you are not easily recognized by the rest of the profession. And I’m taking commisions of clients and doing a kind of outstanding work. You are really trying to do both research and investigation into the direction of future of architecture. And it can become exhausting and tired. And it’s very nice to understand that other people are looking at what you are doing and are aware of what you are doing and want to reward you, to kind of give you substance, to allow you to continue to move into that direction. So I think the prize is a very important prize particulary today. Particulary when architecture is searching for a new voice and a new way of begining to face the future. I was very very impressed that we have 76 submissions and the quality of work was very very high. The question should being asked and the offices and the individuals who sent it were excellent and I think that we spent very exhausting 2 days on the jury looking at the work and making the decisions about who the finalist should be and who should be given the prize. If the work have not been good it would be much easier. In fact we all said when we arrived we were just to laminate 90% of them and will just make our decidion, but we arrived and probably whithin first day, after exhausting an day, we still have 50% of the people and I think it’s very very high persantage and I think it speaks of the fact that there is a kind of an awareness of this prize and an awareness of what it means. And the quality of work that have been submitted, the people who are being proposed for the prize, the was very high. В наше время многие люди задаются вопросом о роли архитектуры, направлении ее раз- вития, какой должна быть архитектура, каким должно быть общество и культура сегодня. Этот вопрос порождает вызов. Это означает, что ты работаешь за пределами нормы, но о тебе трудно узнать представителям других профессий. Ты стараешься проводить ис- следования, чтобы соответствовать будущей архитектуре. Это изматывающий процесс, от которого можно устать. И приятно сознавать, что другие люди наблюдают за тем, что ты делаешь, и хотят отблагодарить тебя, придать тебе уверенность и разрешить продолжать

Ricardo Scofidio New York, USA

Ricardo Scofidio, RA, is a founding member of DS+R. Born in New York City; he attended The Cooper Union School of Architecture and received a Bachelor of Architecture from Columbia University. Mr. Scofidio is Professor of Architecture at Cooper Union. Diller Scofidio + Renfro is an interdisciplinary studio that fuses architecture, the visual arts and the performing arts. Their work encompasses architecture, urban design, temporary and permanent site-specific installations, multi-media theater, electronic media, and print.

Ricardo Scofidio. Charles Renfro, a collaborator in the studio since 1997, was promoted to partner in 2004.

Риккардо Скофидио – член- учредитель DS+R. Родился в Нью- Йорке; учился в Школе искусств Купер Юнион и получил степень бакалавра архитектуры в Колум- бийском университете. Профессор архитектуры в Купер Юнион. Diller Scofidio + Renfro – это меж- дисциплинарная студия, которая объединяет архитектуру, изобрази- тельные и исполнительские виды искусства.
