Stirling Scene Spring 2018

keeping a watchful eye on the coastline year round. To get an idea of just how busy they’ve been during patrols this past year, check out our article on Page 3. The Beach Services team is always looking to boost safety at our beaches and the latest improvement is the addition of a new semi-permanent observation tower at Scarborough Beach. The tower provides an elevated surveillance platform for the City’s professional beach inspectors, beach lifeguards and volunteer surf life savers from the Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club. The new tower was made possible with generous support from Surf Life Saving WA and Lotterywest and it’s hoped more towers will soon be added to both Scarborough and Trigg beaches. Mayor’s Message Robinson Reserve Master Plan (Tuart Hill) Planned upgrades at the reserve include a barbecue area with picnic tables, shelters and seating as well as a new playground, toilets and an improved path network. A new basketball/netball half-court facility will also be added to the reserve. Visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au and search ‘Robinson Reserve Master Plan’ for more details. Grenville Reserve (Tuart Hill) The playground at the Tuart Hill Kindergarten has recently been revamped with upgrades to existing children’s play equipment and installation of new soft-fall material.

Finally, I’d like to remind you about one of the City’s upcoming community events. If you’re a dog lover like me, you’ll be heading along to the City’s Paw-some Day Out which is happening at Yokine Regional Open Space on Sunday 28 October. It’s a fantastic way to treat your pet to a fun day out, discover the latest dog-related products on the market and meet fellow dog lovers from across the community. I hope to see you there. Happy reading!

It’s always a great time of year when we start getting closer to summer and can head out to enjoy our beautiful beaches. If you’re visiting any of the City’s beaches, including Trigg Beach and Scarborough Beach, we have a dedicated team of Beach Services staff

Our City To give you an insight into the progress on some of the City’s projects, here is a summary of updates that have occurred during the past few months:

Millington Reserve Clubrooms (Scarborough) Recent remodelling of the clubrooms included refurbishment of the hall, new roofing and upgrades to existing change rooms and toilets. Ambulant and accessible toilets have also been added to the clubrooms as well as a new accessible path from the car park to the clubrooms. Community consultation for the BMX and cycle track was carried out in May and June of this year, prompting more than 150 submissions from the surrounding community. The City is currently reviewing the outcomes of this community consultation period. Please visit www.yoursay.stirling.wa.gov.au for more information about the project including FAQs and a fact sheet.
