for submitting a classic photo and caption of her mother entering the Miss Scarborough contest. “My mum Margaret Taylor won Miss Scarborough in 1956. She went down to Scarborough Beach with some friends, one friend planned to enter. Mum got talked into entering herself and she won!” As well as being able to share a fantastic photo and story about her mum, Roda also brought her pageant-winning mother along to the City’s recent History and Heritage Awards ceremony. The ‘Sensitive Adaptation of a Heritage Building’ award went to Elan Silver for works carried out to his podiatry business on Beaufort Street, Inglewood that included retaining the art deco façade. Rounding out the honours, Vesna and Snjezana Sarich received the ‘New Single House in a Heritage Area’ award for construction of their beautiful new home on Learoyd Street that incorporated heritage aspects from the surrounding neighbourhood.

Drago Brkic won a ‘New Group Dwelling Development in a Heritage Area’ honour for his development at 68 Second Avenue, Mount Lawley. The high end development respects the existing leafy and established streetscape as well as local heritage character. The architectural style, materials and colours used also complement the existing streetscape within the area.
