Cardiac Arrest 1

Cardiac Arrest 2

Cardiac Arrest 3

Cardiac Arrest 4

The patient is a 4 month old who went unresponsive after playing with a plastic bag. He is apneic and pulseless. The patient will need CPR @ 15:2 with an adjunct and BVM. After 2 minutes of CPR, the patient will have a pulse but continue apneic. After 2 minutes of ventilations the patient will begin breathing spontaneously at 7 bpm, and require continued bagging. The patient will eventually breathe 24 bpm and transition to a mask or NRB mask. Does not open airway manually Selects inappropriate ventilation device Fails to ventilate at 1 breath / 5-6 seconds Fails to insert adjunct Unacceptable adjunct technique Unable to create visible chest rise Does not connect device to oxygen Does not transition patient to oxygenation device Does not monitor SPO2 Critical Criteria

The patient is a 58 year old who collapsed after being electrocuted at a job site. He is apneic and pulseless. The patient will need CPR @ 30:2 with an adjunct and BVM. After 2 minutes of CPR, ALS will arrive and intubate the patient. The crew will need to perform intubated CPR and need one breath every 6-8 seconds.

The patient is a 40 year old who is having chest pains. He is pale, sweaty, and feels like he is going to die. The patient will need a NRB @ 15 lpm. The patient will collapse during the transport and need CPR @ 30:2 with an adjunct and BVM. After one shock and 2 minutes of CPR, the patient will begin moving slightly. He will be responsive to pain and reject an oral airway if one is inserted. The patient will breathe at 22 bpm and require a NRB mask.

The patient is an 8 year old who has drowned. The patient has been removed from the pool and has copious water and secretions in his pharynx. The patient will need suctioning, an adjunct, and BVM ventilations. After approximately 2 minutes, the patient will move slightly. Reassessment shows the patient has a pulse, but is not breathing. BVM ventilations should continue every 3-5 seconds. The patient will eventually remain unresponsive breathing 24 bpm, and need only an adjunct and NRB mask.

The patient will continue to be shockable, but not improve.

Critical Criteria

Does not open airway manually Selects inappropriate ventilation device Fails to ventilate at 1 breath / 5-6 seconds Fails to insert adjunct Unacceptable adjunct technique Unable to create visible chest rise Does not connect device to oxygen Does not effective interface with ET tube Does not monitor SPO2

Critical Criteria

Does not provide a NRB mask Selects inappropriate ventilation device Fails to ventilate at 30:2 rate Fails to insert adjunct Unacceptable adjunct technique Unable to create visible chest rise Does not connect device to oxygen Does not resume the NRB mask Does not monitor SPO2

Critical Criteria

Does not resume the BVM ventilations Selects inappropriate ventilation device Fails to ventilate at 30:2 rate Fails to insert adjunct Unacceptable adjunct technique Unable to create visible chest rise Does not connect device to oxygen Does not provide NRB mask Does not monitor SPO2

Debriefing Points:

Was CPR promptly provided? Why did the CPR routine change with the ET tube?

Debriefing Points:

Debriefing Points:

Was oxygen promptly provided? Was CPR and AED promptly provided when the arrest happened? Why did the patient require NRB mask after the arrest?

Debriefing Points:

Were ventilations promptly provided? Were monitoring devices placed before critical care was provided?

Was oxygen promptly provided? Was CPR and AED promptly provided when the arrest happened? Why did the patient require BVM ventilations after the arrest?

Does not provide a NRB mask
