EMT Program Lesson Plan Section 2.05 – Airway Testing

Station: BVM Apneic Patient

This station will test the candidate’s ability to: 1. Demonstrate the steps in performing the head tilt–chin lift maneuver. (p 337)

2. Demonstrate how to assist a patient with ventilations using the bag-mask device for one and two rescuers. (p 354)

Station: Oxygen Administration Station

This station will test the candidate’s ability to:

1. Demonstrate how to place an oxygen cylinder into service. (pp 349–350, Skill Drill 9-7) 2. Demonstrate the use of a partial rebreathing mask in providing supplemental oxygen therapy to patients. (p 352) 3. Demonstrate the use of a nasal cannula in providing supplemental oxygen therapy to patients. (p 352)

Station: Combined Mouth to Mask with Oxygen and Suction Station

This station will test the candidate’s ability to: 1. Demonstrate the steps in performing the head tilt–chin lift maneuver. (p 337) 2. Demonstrate mouth-to-mask ventilation. (pp 356–357, Skill Drill 9-8) 3. Demonstrate how to operate a suction unit. (p 344) . Instructions: Read the scripted lines on the skills sheet and observe for good technique
