REIRRADI ATION TOLERANCE OF THE HUMAN BRAIN

R AMONA M AYER , M.D., M.S C ., * AND P ETER S MINIA , P H .D. y * Department of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria; and y Department of Radiation Oncology, Division Radiobiology, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands • Radiation-induced normal brain tissue necrosis was found to occur at NTD cumulative > 100 Gy • The applied reirradiation dose and NTD cumulative were found to increase with a change in irradiation technique from conventional to conformal techniques such as FSRT to SRS, without increasing the probability of normal brain necrosis. • The analysis shows the applied total cumulative dose to be the most important factor with regard to the development of radionecrosis • Reirradiation is a feasible option as palliative therapy for recurrent high grade glioma
