1.6.2 Profile of Australia’s remote population According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW, 2013), the estimated population of Australia in 2012 was 22,710,352. The pie graph in Figure 1.2 illustrates the population distribution by remoteness using the ARIA+ classifications.
