An Extraordinary Life and Collection Mike Drury Collection

Mike Drury was born to race as a kid he started with go-carts, then graduated from one sport to another, dominating each along the way. Motorcycling, water-skiing, drag-racing, offshore boat racing, hang gliding… high speeds and adrenaline has been Mike’s passion. He has traveled the world in pursuit of faster finish times and top-podium spots. Mike served our country with the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. After two tours in Vietnam, he resumed a busy life back home racing and running successful businesses. Some of Mr. Drury’s accomplishments include setting the world speed record in offshore powerboat racing, setting another world speed record for Mercury Marine with a boat that he custom built, winning the national championship for hang gliders, racing for Suzuki Motorcycles, racing for Oldsmobile and more. Mike’s entire car collection is special, but the 1969 White and Gold Hurst Oldsmobile is the car that stands out the most to him. He drag-raced it in Indianapolis and placed second in the Nationals against Jerry Dover, against whom he raced many times. After an unfortunate accident that left Mike unable to drive and care for his collection of cars in the way that they deserve, Mike is selling his collection. It is his intention to see that the cars go to new owners who will enjoy them for years to come.

Henderson Auctions is proud to represent Mr. Drury as his auctioneer. We are proud to call him our client. We are honored to call him our friend.

Autos | Pick-Ups | Page 53 Lot 94 1965 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE | The first generation of the GTO is credited as popularizing the muscle car market segment in the 1960s. This drop-top GOAT is a super-clean, honest example. There were only around 11,000 convertible GTO’s built by Pontiac in 1965 and this one is a stunner! Montero Red Exterior, Black Interior, New Tires with Hurst Custom Rims, 389 CID -Tri- Power, RamAlr, New Exhaust System, Close Ratio Manual 4-Speed Transmission, Showing 52,045 Miles, VIN # 23767P16298S

Lot 96 1971 OLDSMOBILE 442 (W30) | If you are in the market for a great alternative to GM’s traditional stars, there are few cooler cars than this Saturn Gold Oldsmobile! Assembled in Lansing, Michigan during the second week of February, 1971, this spectacular Oldsmobile is one of only (810) 442 W-30 hardtops produced for the 1971 year model. 50 years after rolling out of the showroom, it is one head turning muscle car that intimidates like a cruise missile and shines like a new penny. Unfortunately, the block’s partial VIN was completely milled off during a rebuild, so we can’t authenticate its status as a numbers matching piece. We can tell you this 350 HP Engine is road sound and ready for an adventure. Standard fare for the 442 trim was a factory heavy duty suspension which is augmented with beefy front control arms, better front shocks, thicker coil springs, boxed rear control arms, a standard rear sway bar, and in this car’s case, rear air shocks. Behind the wicked 455, the car’s original Muncie M22 4-Speed, which wears a correct 6925661 casting number, a matching partial VIN and a Muncie (P) M22 © assembled on December (T) 17th, (17) of 1970 (1) build stamp, sends power to stout 10 bolt rear end that’s equipped with easy living gears. Frame Off Restoration, 455 CID, Muncie M22 Manual Transmission, Hurst Shifter, Saturn Gold and Black Strip Exterior, Saddle Leather Interior, Showing 78,515 Miles, VIN# 344871M151712

Each car featured the limited-edition Hurst conversion package and the required engine and transmission combination, but each car was allowed to be distinct and feature any of the components from the Cutlass 442. This is a fine example with two Joe Mondello built engines, including the original!
