Premenstrual Disorders

How to Manage PMS Before It Starts

• Plan around PMS symptoms. Try to make appointments, take classes, and plan vacations around your monthly schedule. This includes dinner parties, extended shopping trips, and having overnight guests. • Don’t make any major decisions while you are having PMS symptoms. Keep a calendar handy with your cycle marked. Don’t change jobs or end relationships. When you feel the most frustrated, write down the problem and deal with it after your period. • Remind your family of your PMS difficulties. Share when you will experience the most problems and ask for help. Tell them to gently remind you that this is something that will pass and urge them to support your efforts to be as normal as possible during that time. • Take good care of yourself throughout your cycle so that you feel your best at the end of it. Nap, rest, read, take a walk, do what you need to help yourself so that you are a positive influence on those around you.
