E mily Palmer’s Journal, April 8 I can’t believe this. Just when everything was going so good, I had to get sick. This would have to happen to me. Of course, my doc- tor says this is okay. We’ll give it a week or two, he says, and maybe these stomach pains will go away. It’s not terrible but it’s not pleas- ant either. Mom says I shouldn’t worry because the doctor knows what’s going on and he’s probably right, I’ll feel better in a week or two.

One week later:

I feel great again. I’m back on the medicine but just like the doctor said, I feel fine. I’m applying tomorrow for a job at the sub shop. I
