Thank you to all of our readers and local businesses who contacted me to let me know how much they enjoyed my new look magazine, it is greatly appreciated. Summer is here and Christmas is just around the corner and in this edition we have several gift ideas featured for your loved ones, as well as some scrumptious delights and tasty food you may like to try. We have a special Christmas present for one of our lucky readers, a fantastic Miele Robot Vacuum Cleaner valued at $999, so one of you can put your feet up and not worry about having to clean your floors in the coming year. So be sure to enter, as you have to be in it to win it. We have a great spread for motoring and boating enthusiasts that is sure to please, and some local entertainment and great products for the home renovator and builders. Most of us have in mind that we would like to maintain our good health or improve our fitness levels in the coming year, to ensure we stay happy and healthy, and we have some articles to help you achieve your goals and share with you the importance of looking after yourself. And much more. It’s that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas. What is Christmas to you? Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, turkey dinners with family and friends, and shouts of “Merry Christmas” to those who pass us in the streets? Be kind to each other and reach out to those less fortunate than you, and give the best present of all to that someone special “your time.’’ Wishing all of our valued readers and clients a very Merry Christmas and peace and happiness for the coming year to all. I hope you take the time to relax and enjoy the sunshine on our beautiful Central Coast. Alison Robinson

Vertical gardens or Wallgarden systems are adding a new dimension for gardeners. The novel design of Wallgarden’s modular system allows for a robust wall of foliage that conceals planter modules, which contain much more growing medium than other vertical garden products. A great weekend project, DIY, simple, low cost and readily available. Walls of plants form a leafy screen that provide an attractive feature, privacy from neighbours, insulation for buildings and shade, while reducing noise, wind chill, pollution and rainwater run-off. Plants tend to grow better on north and west facing-walls, leading to reduced energy demands for heating and cooling where it is most needed. Vertical spaces also extend new possibilities for gardeners keen to create a rainforest habitat spilling down walls or a mix of native vegetation resembling a coastal cliff face. The trickle-down effect of this design feature recycles the irrigation between plants, with unused water from one plant quenching the plant below, which saves on water requirements and supports long- term growth. More than 40 plant species proven to excel in vertical environments are identified on the Wallgarden website at www.wallgarden.com.au shop online now.
