Once again the West Coast Conference proved its dominance on a national scale this past season with four teams qualifying for NCAA Tournament action , with Santa Clara advancing to the NCAA College Cup Semi-Finals. WCC affair with Portland ousting Santa Clara in double overtime, denying the Broncos a second consecutive crown . Needless to say, the WCC is regarded as one of the premiere soccer con– ferences in the United States. League members San Diego, Pepperdine, St. Mary's and Loyola Marymount have all received invitations to the NCAA College Cup Tournament in recent years. San Diego continued its tradition of playing ex– cellent soccer, making their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 . USO was defeated in second round action by the UCLA Bruins in Los Angeles. In the first round , the Toreros scored a 1-0 overtime victory over the UNLV Rebels. Three conference schools ended the season ranked in final regular season NSCAA Top-25 Poll . The wee is proud to enter its 14th season of women's soccer. Historically, four member teams have tasted post-season play, with Santa Clara leading the way with 15 appearances, including 11 NCAA semi-finals. Portland follows with 11 trips, including seven appearances in the NCAA Semi-Finals and the College Cup Title two seasons ago. The Pilots advanced to the Finals in 1995.

Amy Epsten was voted the 2004 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, the first Torero to win such an honor.

The University of San Diego has appeared in the NCAA Tournament seven times, aiming for

their seventh straight trip in 2005 . Saint Mary's has qualified for the tournament three times, most recently advancing to the second round in 2001. Women 's soccer is one of 13 sports the 52-year-old conference sponsors. Started in 1952 as a men's basketball league for five Bay Area schools, the WCC added women 's athletics to its lineup in 1985. All WCC members are private institutions with high academic standards and growing athletic tradition .
