SWIMMING This year's Women's Swim Team achieved success at ll phases of the com­ petitive season. Not only were many team records broken, but many indivi­ duals qualified for the AIAWDivision II Nationals. Denise Odenwald led the team in team records broken and first place finishesat meets. Graduatingsen­ ior and Ail-American swimmer, Mary Lightfoot, again paced the team in the backstroke eventswhile freshman Janet Gaunt setmany new team records while qualifying for Nationals in the breast- stroke events.Val Skufca, Dianne Sims, Trish Dauer, and Katie O'Roukeall ad­ ded points at meets in the freestyle events while Dianne Sims set a new team record in the 1,650 yard (1 mile) event. This year's team swam against the best in Division III and Division II teams and held its own against many Division I teams including an upset victory over Di­ vision I, University of Utah. Vastly im­ proved andholding theirown in compe­ tition, theLady Toreras have become a respected power in college swimming. Prospects for the futureare very bright.
