PLAY HOOK-E Veterans Spend the Day Fishing At Ponderosa Estate Farms By Pam Teel

This past April, Mr. Vito Cardinale, President of Cardinale Enterprises LLC, once again hosted ‘The 2018 Second Annual Take A Veteran Fishing Day’ at Lake Juli- anna, Ponderosa Estates Farm, Millstone Township, NJ. "Play HOOK-e From PTSD" was the theme for disabled veterans that attended the second event. The goal of the fishing day at the Lake was to provide a chance for disabled PTSD veterans to go fishing and to relax while enjoying the peaceful surroundings around the lake with other veterans.

Disabled veterans and their guests were invited to fish at the private lake to catch and release big fish and then join Mr. Cardinale and his staff of volunteers for a free barbeque. They provided soft drinks, hamburgers, hotdogs, and other goodies. Sixty-eight veterans attended this year. There was close to one hundred people on hand, volunteers included. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Jersey Shore Chap- ter provided fly casting instruction. Boating Education and Rescue, Mike and Debbie Bennett, helped veterans with freshwater fishing techniques, loaner rods and reels, and prepared bait cups for everyone. Jersey Coast Anglers Association provided bait for the day and contributed towards the prizes for the day. Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club and New Jersey Beach Buggy Association provided volunteers to help veterans throughout the day. Samuel Fuoco, AUSA Ret. COL US Air Force, stopped by to support our veterans and encourage them to continue to participate in outdoor programs. As in the past, Mr. Cardinale and his team were proud to serve the veterans that have given so much for their county. Veterans with mobility challenges had the use of 4x4 transportation around the lake, along with fishing assistance if needed. Freshwater fishing license was not needed because this is a private lake. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Jersey Shore Chapter assisted with fly fishing instruction and their members were also welcomed to join in and catch some big fish on a fly rod. Boating Education and Rescue were on hand with their mobile education booth and equipment. There were door prizes, loaner rods and reels, terminal tackle, bait, and other fishing equipment available to insure that all had an enjoyable time. A big thank you to all the volunteers that came out to support the veterans and help with setup, hospitality, fishing assistance, and cleanup.
