Speak Out December 2018

Victoria

Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo

Recently members volunteered for the SPA stall at the Melbourne Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo. It was a great opportunity to showcase the profession and provide resources to increase the public’s knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders. Interest was strong across the three days, particularly regarding what a speech pathologist does and how to access one and the communication developmental milestones. The recently announced Book of the Year competition was also of interest. The volunteers enjoyed the opportunity to showcase the profession to the public, meet other speech pathologists and earn Professional

Self-Regulation points. It was a great opportunity for speech pathologists across sectors and with varying professional experiences to be involved in an event together. Thank you to all members who volunteered at the expo. If Victorian members are interested in becoming involved in the Victorian Advocacy Portfolio, please register your interest in attending a Victorian Branch Meeting by emailing The Victorian Branch secretary on vic.secretary@gmail.com . Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, alternating between Speech Pathology Australia national office and The University of Melbourne.
