The Community Center offers a variety of classes for ages 12 and up (12–14 year olds may participate when accompanied by a parent/guardian). Classes are taught by certified instructors in a comfortable setting with safety and fun in mind. Reservations are required for classes. To make a class reservation or view a current class list, visit at ShakopeeMN.gov/fitness . When arriving for classes, check in at the front desk, and then scan your membership card or pay the daily fee. Consult with your physician prior to beginning any new exercise program. INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION Curious about meditation but not sure where to begin? This workshop will gently introduce you to the pracice with clarity, compassion, and accessibility. We’ll explore what meditation is and isn’t, common misconceptions that keep people from starting, simple breath and awareness techniques you can practice anywhere, guided practices like body scan and heart-centered visualization, and practical tips for beginning a home meditation routine. We’ll combine gentle postures, breath awareness, and guided meditation with insights from modern pain science. Along the way, you’ll also gain education about how the spine functions, common contributors to back pain, and how simple lifestyle shifts can make a difference. It’s time to get together for an afternoon of line dancing, music, and fun! Each dance will be taught before music is added, starting at the beginner level and gradually increasing in difficulty as the party goes on. Dances will feature a variety of music, including classic country, current country, pop, and rock. Please wear clean athletic shoes, boots are not permitted on the studio floors. Line dancing offers a low impact activity that is good for your body, mind, and soul. These introductory classes will have you learning beginner line dances to current and classic country music as well as pop and rock. FITNESS ORIENTATIONS Get acquainted with our fitness equipment and fitness floor etiquette! A certified personal trainer will demonstrate and answer questions on the proper use of and setting adjustments for each machine. Fitness orientations are open to ages 12 and older. All youth 12 to 14 years old are required to take a fitness orientation prior to being allowed to use the fitness floor. Pre-registration is required; registration ends 24 hours prior to orientation.
