Tube flaring system from Swagelok

Concentric workholding of pipes, tubes, bars and shafts The revised and extended work- holding XR systems, built by Arla Maschinentechnik GmbH, Germany, are very stiff units used for realising a concentric, accurate, and firm clamp of round workpieces such as pipes and tubes, or any other symmetrical parts. According to the model size, the maximum outer diameter is between 5mm and 410mm, which is compatible with a maximum pipe size of 16" or less. Mechanically synchronous clamping technology allows a high clamping force of between 10 and 175 kN to be achieved.

The Swagelok ® FTF 1000 plastic tube flaring system from Swagelok Company, USA, flares the end of plastic tubing prior to installation with PFA fine thread flare type fittings. The flaring system provides consistent, well-shaped flares of 1 / 4 , 3 / 8 , 1 / 2 , 3 / 4 and 1" PFA and FEP tubing, which increase the reliability of plastic fluid systems by reducing potential entrapment areas and ensuring a leak-tight connection. The flaring tool features a robust, patent-pending design, making it easy to operate with minimal training. The unit is portable and features improved cycle times compared to other available flaring technologies. Swagelok claims that its FTF 1000 system is a major improvement for customers using existing cold and

hot flaring technology, which fails to provide repeatable, well-formed tube ends. Inconsistent flaring results in poor mating of the tube-to-fitting connection, which can lead to installation difficulties, create large entrapment areas, and produce leaks. Headquartered in SantaClara, California, with manufacturing and distribution facilities located near Cleveland, Ohio, Swagelok Semiconductor Services Company is a strategic business unit of Swagelok Company, dedicated to developing and manufacturing fluid system component technology for the global semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Hoses for abrasive material transportation

Masterflex, UK, is a European manufacturer of flexible hose and ductings.

The company’s products include the Master PUR range of polyurethane hoses for the transportation of granular and other abrasive materials.

The flexible, lightweight hoses are abrasion resistant and feature a smooth bore to provide good flow characteristics.

To complement this range of hoses, Masterflex has introduced the Combiflex connecting system. The system is available in fixed and screwable versions

with two types of cuffs, fixed and swivel flanges, threaded socket to suit many standard couplings and pipe fittings, and a quick release male and female connection. The company also manu- factures Master-Clip fabric and polymer ductings, which are mechanically locked with a robust external wire helix, and available in a size range of

Arla’s clamping device with pneumatic actuation The workholding systems are actuated either manually, pneumatically, or hydraulically. With reference to the workpiece design, changeable jaw sets, with optional integrated workpiece support, are used to allow the diameter to be reduced without readjusting the centre for every change of diameter. The fast motion of the actuation arms is monitored by sensors. Typical applications are found in endworking processes, in special- purpose machine tools such as those in transfer lines or trunnion machines. p

Masterflex has also developed a wear resistant range of pipe bends for pneumatic conveying systems, for use in a range of industries, including chemical, construction material, foundry and glass manufacturing.
