New European standard for steel tubes leads to wider choice

EN 10294-1 is a new European standard for steel tubes that are used for machining mechanical components. SteeltubemanufacturerPouchard,France, has responded to the new standard by introducing an additional range of dimensions to its already extensive stock list of carbon steel tubes. The wider choice of sizes now available should allow customers reduce overall component costs by using the optimum size of tube.

Steel pipes and wheels producer Interpipe is strongly focussed on technologically sophisticated pipe products for machinery and power generation. Interpipe manufactures a wide variety of seamless pipe products for special applications. The company’s principal products in this segment are boiler pipes, roller pipes, pipes for submerged pump stations, precision pipes and cold drawn pipes. Boiler tubes and pipes are the specific products used in boiler plants (steam generators), operating under high pressure and high temperature, and are used in industries where indirect heating and steam are used. The major consumers are heat power plants, petroleum processing and chemical plants, as well as the food industry.

Steel pipes, valves and fittings

Bor ş en Boru, Turkey, is a distributor of steel pipes, valves and fittings, and a manufacturer of TIG welded stainless steel pipes. The company is the Turkish rep- resentative and single distributor of Ham-Let for valves and fittings, and of Alfa-Laval for sanitary flow equipment. Manufacturing processes such as tricathode TIG welding, outside and inside bead removal, in-line bright annealing, straightening, surface finishing and tube-end deburring allow Bor ş en Boru to meet delivery expectations. The company is focussed on continuous quality control and improvement. Some of the standard tests in its new non- destructive and destructive quality control test laboratory include chemical analysis by spectrometer, surface roughness test, hardness test, tensile test, shear strength test, flattening test, flaring test, reverse bending test and hydrostatic test. Stainless steel tubes produced by Bor ş en have a producer test and analysis report according to EN 10204/3.1. Technical specifications include outside diameter from 19 to 76.1mm, wall thickness from 0.5 to 4mm, tolerance D4/T3, and length tolerance 3m to 12m.

In boiler plants the pipes are built up as coils in units and welded by high frequency welding. In the boiler water circulates in tubes externally by hot gas, which can be generated inside the boiler itself (conventional steam generator), or outside the boiler (heat recovery steam generator). The growth surge in the power industry and the growth in demand for electrical energy have directly challenged producers of power generation equipment.
