Sandvik Materials Technology Stand 8aB40

Sandvik’s new hyper-duplex stainless steel will be one of the products in focus on the company’s stand at Tube 2008. Sandvik SAF 2707 HD is a high alloy duplex stainless steel, specially developed for service in highly corrosive conditions, such as seawater cooled heat exchangers. It is particularly suited to aggressive, acidic, chloride-containing environments and displays excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, stress corrosioncrackingandgeneralcorrosion. At the same time, it has high mechanical strength and good weldability. Designed and developed to increase operating performance and extend service life in severely corrosive heat

exchanger applications, Sandvik SAF 2707 HD is already being used to achieve longer run times and set new uptime standards. Aimed particularly at the chemical, petrochemical and refinery industries, it has been developed to meet higher industry demands on performance whilst maintaining the reliability and safety of the equipment. Sandvik SAF 2707 HD heat exchanger tubes have been extensively evaluated, over time and in a variety of refinery applications. In a joint project with a major refiner in the US, there is evidence of increased operating reliability and uptime benefits of using the new grade. Applications

in Europe and the Middle East, under a variety of operating and corrosion conditions, have generated similar positive feedback. At the end of 2003, in a US oil refinery application, a complete tube bundle was retubed with hyper-duplex Sandvik SAF 2707 HD in a top pump-around exchanger in an atmospheric distillation unit. The previous carbon tubes had a life expectancy of around nine months, with most difficulties having been caused by chloride attacks and increased corrosivity from a greater use of lower quality crude oils. To date, the Sandvik SAF 2707 HD tubes have performed without problems. Teijin Aramid – Stand 9C39

Teijin Aramid, Netherlands, is a supplier of Twaron ® aramid fibre for use in reinforced thermoplastic pipe (RTP). RTP is a flexible pipe system, designed for hydrocarbon production and water transport in aggressive environments with high H 2 S or CO 2 content. The RTP system is easy to handle due to its low weight and high flexibility, and is therefore easily installed by a small crew and light equipment. Combined with the production of road- transportable coils of 400m and interconnecting the segments by electrofused in-line couplers to provide a metal-free solution, RTP offers the industry a state-of-the art pipeline solution in applications for transport of oil, gas and water. No maintenance is required after installation, because the pipe is corrosion resistant and remains smooth for the full service lifetime.

Profilmec SpA, Italy, specialises in the manufacture of high-frequency electro- welded cold rolled precision steel tubes and profiles. The materials used are hot rolled pickled steel (standard and special), cold rolled steel (standard and special), aluminised steel, hot galvanised steel and aluminium. Global production is approximately 1,450 tons/day.

Fouling is no longer a problem, as scales hardly adhere to PE, and the system has a design lifetime of 20 years on surface and 50 years for underground installation. RTP pipe consists of three layers: a liner pipe ensures a corrosion resistant fluid tight containment, a Twaron aramid reinforcing layer gives the system the ability to take up the high-pressure rating, and the outer layer protects the pipe from abrasion and the environment.
