Welcome to our Focus on Steam brochure, pulling together this year’s steam-hauled selection into one place and featuring lots of great new tour ideas.

We are starting the year with the Double Somerset Galas & South Devon Steam tour, which has been full for quite some time. If you didn’t manage to book, however, please turn to page 22 for a tour with similar content – Devon Coast to Coast & West Somerset Steam . We still have limited space on our other March and April tours to Kent & Sussex , Dresden and the exciting Dampfspektakel in Trier , but please hurry to get your place before we have to confirm final numbers. This year sees the centenary of the end of World War I. With Rob’s experience of putting together battlefields tours it seemed fitting to mark the occasion by combining our favourite steam galas in Belgium and France with poignant battlefields tours of Ypres and the Somme . We have also decided to include a couple of tours further afield, featuring flights from Heathrow with BA due to the distance to travel. Take a look at Chabowka 2018, the Tatras & Slovakia Steam for a Polish steam festival, great mountain scenery, fascinating cities and the famous Cierny Hron Railway steaming through a football stadium. Now this combines two of my favourite things! In July we are touring Romania with flights to and from Bucharest, great sightseeing and no less than six narrow-gauge steam railways. For both these flight holidays we have reserved only 20 seats initially, so we advise you to book early.

Finally, the last four pages of this edition feature tours from our main collection that should be interesting to enthusiasts and partners alike. And on the back page is a brand new tour, not featured anywhere else, picking off most of the railways of the Rhine Valley , with steam, heritage diesel, cog railways, branch lines and cable cars.
