Benjamin Brirren's recently discovered Double Concerro for Violin and Viola was given its U.S. premiere on 25 July 1998 by rhe Minnesota Orchestra under Eiji Oue. Soloists were concerrmasrer Jorja Fleezanis and principal violist Thomas Turner in the rwenry-five minute work. Britten's original piano score was written in 1932 and has been fully orchestrated by Britten scholar and com poser Colin Marrhews in accordance wirh the composer's derailed instrumentation. The

Double Concerto is published by Oxford University Press and has been recorded by Gidon Kremer and Yuri Bashmet on Erato Records with the Halle Orchestra led by Kent agano. Stephen Gerber's Viola Concerro was pre miered by Yuri Bashmer on 23 July 1998 at the annual Semaines Musicales de Tours in France. Gerber is a member of the American Composers Alliance and has also written con certos for ceUo and violi n.
