Niehoff’s NPS enters the Asian automotive cable market More harness manufacturers in Asia require better packing of automotive cables with flexible sizes and a more stable shape at faster payoff speed. Because cable rings and cardboard barrels are inflexible and difficult to handle, several cable manufacturers in Asia have already replaced traditional systems with Niehoff’s NPS system. Spools available with a flange diameter of 400mm and a traverse width of 100, 150, 250 and 400mm offer the increasing flexibility requested by the harness maker and enable efficient, safe and economical handling of automotive cables. They can be directly manufactured inline with extrusion lines at speeds up to 1,500m per minute. The Niehoff Package System (NPS) consists of specially developed spoolers and collapsible multiway ABS plastic spools. The spoolers use a patented wire-laying technology to spool the wires conically onto the NPS spools, which offer a secure, stable and tangle-free package both when full or partially empty. Partially unwound NPS spools can be stored again for re-use without the risk of collapsing the package. Empty NPS spools can be fully dismantled, nested inside each other and returned to the cable manufacturer to be quickly assembled and re-loaded. Further advantages are the savings on packaging material and the reduction of the cable scrap rate.

Range of take-ups and payoffs Queins & Co GmbH, is a leading manufacturer of heavy duty payoffs and take-ups, and provides the industry with a wide choice of equipment. The product range covers column- type, cantilever-type, bridge-type, self- traversing portal-type, heavy rotating take-ups and payoffs for power and telecommunication cables, as well as for steel wire ropes. Standard models cover the reel size range from 1,600mm (63") to 5,500mm (216") with reel weight from 3 to 300 tonnes.

Triple-twist (560mm to 630mm reel) is the most economical solution for the production of LAN cable with the highest performances (Cat 6, 7, 8) and speeds 30% to 50% higher than any conventional double twist twinner. It reduces investment costs by increasing total production capacity without any new additional take-up twinner such as the DHD TT 560, which permits the use of an existing conventional double twist twinner while keeping the flexibility of the line for other products.

The take-up range presents the same features as the payoffs, including optimised traversing system (Uhing or motorised screw) for perfect winding. The rewinding and re-spooling lines allow test, rewind and print, and are compact standalone units for easy use anywhere; the payoff and take-up allow installing many different testing devices in between. Models ICL630 (N)/800/1000 are designed for the rewinding of insulated wires or cables from one spool to another, enabling a check for insulation defects. This device maintains quality of the product, combining a smooth cable path with large deviation pulleys to perfect tension regulation via a pre-loaded dancer.
