RISK REDUCTION | 17

Since Synexis has the scientific data with the accredited laboratories to meet the disinfection standards of one small non-enveloped virus, according to the EPA, they are able to make limited claims of efficacy against COVID-19. No testing has been done directly on COVID-19, but since the testing was successful on a similar virus, they can make a limited claim that it is reasonable to expect that DHP can significantly reduce COVID-19 on dry, hard, non-porous surfaces and in the air. Dry Hydrogen Peroxide has been tested to show benefits for different spaces by mitigating many contaminants in the space. With the three product options, it is versatile for different uses. While it has not been tested directly with COVID-19, third-party testing results strongly indicate that the product would be effective in reducing the concentration of COVID-19 in a space. It is a promising solution for making indoor environments a safer and healthier space to be in. BENEFITS • Continuous disinfecting • Complete and uniform surface coverage • No training required • Safe for food service • Able to make limited claims against COVID-19 CONCERNS • Lacking information about the components of the product and how it creates DHP • Limited number of sizes • May need many units depending on the area that needs to be covered • Could be expensive

Synexis has created a patented technology that turns humidity in the air and oxygen into Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP) (21) . This gas can then reach the most difficult to reach areas of a room by covering the entire space through air distribution. The concentration of Dry Hydrogen Peroxide is less than 50 parts per billion, much less than the OSHA 8-hour TWA limit of 1 ppm. Since it is safe for humans, the technology can run continuously without having to evacuate the space to decontaminate. DHP has been tested to mitigate levels of viruses, bacteria, mold, fungi, VOCs, pollen, dust, odors and insects. Synexis offers The Blade Inline Device goes in the HVAC system, keeping it out of the way of occupants and ensuring even distribution throughout the rooms served. With adapters, the Blade Inline Device can fit in any size duct.

Synexis Systems are produced in a facility registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the products are all regulated by the EPA (20) . There has been third-party testing to prove the dramatic reduction of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other contaminants in many different types of facilities. During testing at an accredited ATS Lab in a chamber, the stand-alone device was able to inactivate up to 99.8% of a small non-enveloped surface contaminating virus, Feline Calicivirus, on a hard and dry surface within 6 hours. In an accredited Microchem Laboratory, the inline HVAC device was tested to inactivate up to 99.8% of airborne MS-2 bacteriophage within 1 hour.
