light work for all. Between the equipment that the club has and that owned by the mem bership it is the extra hands that will help out most. If you wish to help, we will be sending emails before each work party. Our meetings are still at the Rome Town Hall on the second Tuesday of the month from September to April at 7:00PM. We have seen a big change in snowmobiling from the time that the club started in 1974 and the present that requires a change in the trails. Sleds are now bigger and more powerful and need more room in the corners and straightaways. We must try to give them room to make the trail safe and still keep the land owner happy. So, we ask you, the ones that operate these won derful machines that give us all the freedom to wander through the fields and woods, to use caution, stay on marked trails and operate at a safe speed. I know that when you see a nice straight trail ahead of you might go just a little faster than you should. But remember those big trees on both sides of the trail will stop your sled instantly and what results is a trip in an ambulance to one of two places and the speed you were going will determine which place you end up at. Ok I will quit the sermon and close with if you can’t come to our activ ities then welcome to our trails, bring a friend Greetings fellow snowmobile enthusiast, The beginning of another new season finds us like many small clubs looking for some young blood to join our ranks. As we all know trail work and landowner relations are just part of being a member. Our club was established almost 60 years ago, and the dedicated mem bers have held it together through many chal lenges, but more so through companionship and loads of fun times. We remain small but we have added some energetic new members over the past few years who have stepped in and really stepped up, restoring the core of our club. We meet the first Monday of each month starting in September. The meetings begin with a casual dinner before we move into the club business. Last year ended with a well-at tended landowners supper which was enjoyed by all. Looking forward to seeing everyone this year on Maine’s beautiful and vast trail system. Enjoy and ride safe! Tom Fylstra Club reporter Hello Everyone! Sorry I missed last month’s paper. Still in summer mode, I guess. I hope you had a nice summer, filled with lots of fun activities. Unlike most snowmo bile clubs, we are an ATV club as well which keeps some of us busy almost year round. Since we don’t have ATV trails in our town we have to travel to ride. This summer’s rides have taken us to Newport and beyond, Liv ermore to Farmington, Livermore to Canton, and Abbot to the Forks. We started our sum mer with a new fundraiser. We tried our hands at having a swap meet/flea market/craft sale. It was a success and we plan to do it again next year. One vendor actually asked if we might do one in the fall as well. We weren’t ready to attempt that this year, but maybe in the future. Our club had its annual camping trip to Camden Hills State Park. There were 6 campsites occupied by Trailblazers with over 20 members attending. Shopping, hiking, and sightseeing were among the activities differ ent ones participated in, as well as hanging around the campfire. Saturday night we had our traditional pot luck supper with the whole gang gathering around picnic tables at our site. In August we also had our annual Family Fun Day at our wonderful hosts, the Shaw’s on Cochnewagan Lake. An afternoon of food, or two and enjoy a safe ride. water activities and lawn games, along with many conversations always makes for a great day. Now we are into snow mode! This past year a committee did research on purchasing a four wheeler for dragging trails. We were fortunate to receive a grant to help pay for this. It has been delivered to the dealership and we are waiting for word on when we can pick it up. Having said that, the remaining portion that we need to pay is going to take a chunk out of our account. We need to look at some possible additions to our fundraising. Any ideas and/or help is greatly needed. Please contact Donna Shaw at 933-3235 or join us at any meeting. We meet the second Tuesday of each month at the Monmouth Center Fire Station at 7:00 p.m. Our next and biggest fundraiser is our snowball raffle. We have 250 tickets to sell so many people selling makes for easy work on getting them all sold. Lastly, it is time to renew your member ship. You can print a form from our website cochnewagantrailblazers.com or request one from any officer. We had a great turnout from our membership night with nearly a 1/3 of our membership renewing, enjoying refresh ments and staying for Craig Caron of Reggie’s Kawasaki Ski-Doo (and business member) to give us a safety and maintenance lesson on an ATV. He did this for us a few years ago with a snowmobile. As you can see, we have a variety of activ ities going on. It isn’t all meetings and trail work, although very important aspects for a successful club, we do have many family fun activities as well. Please join us, we would love to see you! Yours truly, Roberta Kemp V.P. and Membership Chair WESTERN REGION DENMARK DRAGGERS sc Denmark, ME Good morning. It was a bit chilly this morning, down to 24 degrees. We had a wet spring and a very dry summer. Not the best weather for those with gardens. We are making up for it now as we have had a lot of rain recently. The club hosted a landowner’s BBQ this past September. It was a small turnout but everyone attending seemed to have a great time. There is not much news to report. The West end Groomer is in for maintenance. There are a couple bridges in need of repair and of course there is always trail work. The Club in looking into renting a brush chipper. There are a few trails that need to be re-routed. They were closed to ATV traffic, and we need to see if the Club will be allowed to use them. Work crews will be scheduled at a later date. Our first meeting of the season was held on September 12, 2022. Our monthly meet ings are the second Monday of the month and are held at the Municipal Building. All are welcome. The member packets are in and our website has a printable form for membership. If you are not a member, please consider joining a club. I’m beginning this letter with sad news that on March 11, 2022, we lost our beloved club founding member, Gordon Curtis. Gordon & Louise were instrumental in starting our iconic fundraiser World’s Greatest Sleigh Ride 29 years ago, and that is why we are planning on holding our 30 th Annual Sleigh Ride this coming Feb 19 th , 2023 one more time, in honor of Gordon & Louise! Gordon

was planning on it at the last club meeting he attended a few days before he passed, so yeah, we gotta do it one more year! It’s kind of a big deal! Cheryl suggested & organized and as a result, we entered a float in this year’s Moxie Day Parade in July, in honor of Gordon and took home the trophy for Most Appealing Float!! How cool was that?! I’m sure Gordon would’ve been tickled at that! Gordon was the strong backbone of our club, always available, always working in front & behind the scenes, always up to a challenge, always adding some good-natured ribbing & laughs, and usually on top of current events! We are all going to miss him something fierce. Thank you, Gordon, for everything you did in the name of Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs, and tell Louise thank you, too!

February 18 th . The venue is the boat landing on Embden Pond. For updates to any activi ties, please monitor our Facebook page. Be smart, be safe. Although insured, remember kiddo, they don’t pay you, they pay your widow. Your Cub Reporter Hi y’all It’s already fall and the seasons are chang ing quickly. The nights are getting cooler and the foliage is artistically painting themselves with beautiful colors of red, orange and gold. Before you know it, all the leaves will have fallen and the trees and trails will be covered with snow. YEA! Which brings us to trail maintenance, as I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, our work sessions have changed to Saturdays at 9am, with the exception of hunting season which starts with youth day on the 22 of Octo ber through November 26, during this time they will be held on Sundays. (No hunting on Sundays) We also hope, all of you weekenders, will take this opportunity to work the trails with us or attend a meeting, which has been changed, especially for you, to the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. Please come, be an active part of the club and see what it takes to maintain the trail system you all enjoy! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make our annual chicken BBQ a success. The grillers, bakers, salad makers, servers, workers, and especially all who attended, without all of you, we would not have had such a phenomenal BBQ. A shout out to Alan Swett for always supporting our club! And for all of you that missed it, you must come to the next one!! We host TWO every year, as fundraisers for our club. They are always the Sunday of both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. Put in in your annual calendar! See you next year! We have a lot of new and upcoming events. In the month of October, we will be hosting our first movie night Friday the 7th at 7pm movie TBA, our annual Halloween costume party Saturday the 29th at 6pm and a Trunk or Treat on Halloween evening at 4pm. Please come and support our club & community. Check us out on Facebook for the rest of the upcoming events!! Stay safe, pray for snow, and come see us at our newly exp snowmobile club. Lori Nunes VP, club reporter, safety officer Lexington Highlanders snowmobile club “The little club that could!” Hello everyone, in the last newsletter we wHHello everyone, our meeting started last month with a small number of members pres ent to lead us into what looks like a good year of trail improvements. As you may know we have entered into a federal grant supervised by the State for trail improvements. It will cover the replacement of 3 bridges and the installa tion of a number of culverts on our trail. This work was started last month and should be completed before snowfall. In fact, the bridges have been complete (see Facebook). Let’s talk about one of the issues hurting almost all of the clubs. That is membership involvement. We understand that all mem bers can’t come to all meetings or to all of the scheduled work parties. However if you can just come once or twice between September and April it would help. New faces at our meeting bring new ideas and ask new ques tions, both bring a fresh approach to the club. We held 2 club dinner meetings in April & June; we discussed end of the season; our donation of $2609.62 to Camp Capella, which we presented to Harvey Chesley on June 23 rd ; lots of discussion on our Moxie Day float, banners & candy ordered; and our 30 th World’s Greatest Sleigh Ride.

We kicked off this season on Sept. 25 th with our lobster/steak “pay your membership dues” dinner. This year we combined with the Bow doin Flurry Flyers and had great fun! Our club voted to have Bowdoin share our clubhouse & help with half the cost of heating the club house this winter. Al Swett & Harvey Chesley were able to join us as well. Thank you, Al, for sharing some eye-opening info on cur rent happenings in the Land/Property arena! Unfortunately, nothing seems to stay the same. And Harvey related Camp Capella received our donation and that helps more kids/adults enjoy a handicap accessible camping experi ence. We love that! That’s the main purpose for holding our World’s Greatest Sleigh Ride after all! Trail work will start ASAP, so plan to give the club a few hours here & there to lighten the workload for the guys. Meet at the clubhouse Sunday mornings at 8! Our next meeting is Tuesday Oct. 11 th , 6pm, at the clubhouse. I will be bringing the dinner, so join us, enjoy a meal together, & bring your ideas to the table. Until then, stay safe, get outside, and take advantage of this beautiful time of year. I will be in the woods looking for grouse and deer and enjoying my favorite season!
