YEAR 12 FILM TV AND NEW MEDIA (OP) COURSE OUTLINE

The OP Film, Television and New Media course encourages students to develop their ability to critique media texts produced in a wide variety of contexts and eras. There is also an emphasis on fostering design and production skills through the creation of texts. SEMESTER ONE SEMESTER TWO Unit 3: Social Media and Video Games

Unit 4: Alternative Film In this unit students will focus on alternatives to mainstream Hollywood films. The ways in which filmmakers find alternative pathways to production and distribution will be examined. Students will use their understanding of the history of alternative film production to inform their own work. Unit 5: Music Videos Students will have the opportunity to analyse a range of popular music videos and respond creatively or analytically.

This unit focuses on the massive impact of social media and video gaming on the global media landscape in recent times, and the ways in which new online communities have formed.
