" The ancient ritual of consecration followed, beginning with a formal "examination" of the c1-ndidate by Archbishop Cushing and proceeding through the solmn mass of the Most t Sacred Heart of Jesus. I The ceremony reached its climax as Archbishop Cushing placed on the head of the new bishop a mitre, and on the latter's hands -:vhile gloves and the pontifical ring, and in his left hand the pas- toral staff. Finally, the newly - consecrated Bishop Kelleher arose and thrice jblessed the congregation. In his sermon, Bishop Buddy de- clared: "A twofold significance marks this blessed day which the Lord has made. A native son, elevated to I auxiliary bishop, receives the full- 1ness of the priesthood.
