A Name Above Every Other Name

The name “God” is today a generic name, but the word god may apply in the lower case while thinking of God in the upper case. After all which God/god would bless this world in its present condition? So the world assumes that the word God, as in God bless applies accurately to God in the uppercase. However, there are many different names to which the connotation “God” is inaccurately applied. Humanity from the earliest of days wanted to know God’s actual name; Moses asked so that he too may know. Humanity has been instructed to accept the name of God as instructed and most do not yet have it right. Each segment uses a name they are most comfortable using, and there are many gods so to speak. However, Christians too have been ill instructed and misuse God’s name, or stutter when asked what that name is and remain confused. Jesus is the specific name, which the Father bestowed upon His Son—”a name above every other name.” The Son of God was Divine, a supernatural being, but to the common mind He seemed to be only a normal man. He came in the name of the Father; the Father gave Jesus His name- no other name is truly applicable. Those of this world called Him the Christ, even offering a genealogy to support their expectation [see Matthew 1]. However, did Jesus have a genealogy according to the law? Was his genealogy as recorded, descending from Joseph’s ancestry? No, His essence was of God, not of Joseph his stepfather, and lineage always applied to the father not the Mother. Christianity, or all who originally followed Jesus, followed a Messianic message, a mission. The name “Christ” evolved from the original context of the meaning deliverer, messiah, and was an epithet when applied to Jesus. The prophecy was this: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him “Immanuel”, which means “God with us.” (Matthew 1: 23) This is precise because that was a Divine purpose. Later, prophecy was used and the epithet added, because of the purpose the Hebrew people wanted Jesus to fulfill, according to their mis- understanding. They began to use the name that matched what they understood. The name derived from their understanding was Messiah the singular purpose of a mere man. Jesus was given this name by the world around him to satisfy what they understood the scriptures foretold – are those scriptures incorrect?
