AOAC SPIFAN Nutrients ERP-Final Review (Jan. 2019)

2015.10 (Jan. 2019) Carn-07 MLT Report FOR ERP USE ONLY DO NOT DISTRIBUTE

Laboratory Comments Some laboratories indicated issues with background noise or eluting interferences during the initial setup, especially for choline analysis. These issues were mitigated by acid washing of bottles or other HPLC system rinses. In some cases using instrument settings to decrease background noise was effective, especially with Sciex instrumentation. No other specific comments were received after multiple requests from the multilab participants. Recommendations It is the recommendation of the Study Director the method is fit-for-purpose in determining both free and total choline and carnitine in infant formula and adult/pediatric nutritional formula and that it be granted AOAC Final Action Official Method status. Acknowledgements The Study Directors are very grateful to all laboratories that participated in the study, especially to the following collaborators (listed alphabetically based on their institution name): • Kelsey West (Abbott Nutrition, Columbus, OH) • Isabelle Malaviole (Laboratoire AQUANAL, PESSAC – France) • Regina Lim (Covance (Asia), Singapore)
