Mysteries New Age Music Is Here Like to learn something each day? Some things just remain a mystery. One includes the, well, mysterious trio Mysteries. Their origins and identity are as well known as the path to complete, enduring peace and happiness. Intrigue aside, the music is a fascinating blend of electro, experimental pop, avant-industrial and precise sound design. Each song is a self-contained space, a micro-universe of heavy beats, atmospheric chords, emotive vocals and detailed instrumental arrangements. The band may remain unknown to us, but it’s clear they aren’t afraid of exploring the unknown realms of pop’s future. The possibilities of rock are no mystery to these adventurous, anonymous musicians. Simon Winkler (I nertia) If you don’t listen to dance music, you’ve still possibly heard the term ‘EDM’ (Electronic Dance Music). It began as a harmless catch-all phrase for pop with synths and drum machines, but it’s become a polarising term. Some embrace it as a sign of growing influence, others shy from commercial implications. For better or worse, superstar DJ Calvin Harris is a face of EDM, and Motion cements his place as a purveyor of festival-ready, stadium-sized dance music. There’s clinically precise synth melodies, basement level bass drops, prominent beats and catchy choruses. There are impressive guest appearances from Haim and Gwen Stefani, and a slight nod to purists with Slow Acid exploring early ‘90s acid house. Simon Winkler ( Sony)
