Director Scott Derrickson ( Sinister ) returns to the themes of his breakthrough movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose in this mix of cop thriller and demonic possession movie. Loosely based on true events (but of course), Deliver Us from Evil finds NewYork cop Ralph Sarchie (Eric Bana) investigating a series of brutal crimes that appear to be linked to an Iraq war veteran (Sean Harris). Édgar Ramírez is the hip Jesuit priest who is convinced that Harris became possessed by a demon whilst on his last tour of duty, while Joel McHale ( Community )

It still features the V/H/S title, but this third installment in the handheld horror anthology series has undergone a format change to bring it up to speed with today's technology. Instead of a cache of found videotapes, the linking device delivers a cautionary tale for teenagers who risk their lives in the pursuit of online fame via viral videos. is surprisingly good in a rare straight role as Bana’s tough partner. It’s a dark film, both in tone and visual style, and although it's occasionally clichéd, it's also an exorcism movie that delivers some genuinely creepy moments, which is ultimately what counts. • See page 62

Although we'll still see him in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2 , this spy thriller features the last lead performance by the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman. And it's a fitting farewell; Hoffman is excellent as a German spymaster keeping tabs on a Chechen immigrant who has arrived in Hamburg's Islamic community to claim an inheritance. Suspecting that the money will be used to finance terror, Hoffman enlists the help of the man's lawyer (Rachel McAdams) and banker (Willem Dafoe) to uncover

Motocross and heavy metal music lead to juvenile delinquency in this tough family portrait set in southeast Texas. Breaking Bad 's Aaron Paul plays an emotionally broken, alcoholic widower dreaming of a better life for his two young boys. But it's a dream that's compromised by his volatile 13-year- old son Jacob (Josh Wiggins, in a terrific debut), who's one act of vandalism away from being locked up, and whose influence on his younger brother further stretches family ties to breaking point.

the truth. A Most Wanted Man is based on a novel by John le Carré ( Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy ), which means a complex plot, international intrigue, covert surveillance, and morally ambiguous characters. A topical and timely thriller recommended for fans of TV's Homeland .

Driven by a thumping metal soundtrack, this affecting indie flick is worth seeing for the intense interplay between Wiggins and Paul alone, with the former poised to take over from Dane DeHann as Hollywood's go-to troubled teen.
