R OUND THE SHORT On the Mend World champion Feild healing after Rodeo Austin injury Four-time PRCA World Champion Bareback Rider Kaycee Feild is on the road to recovery after getting injured March 30 in the finals at Rodeo Austin (Texas).

The number of records broken at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla., March 21-24. Bareback rider Tilden Hooper had a 92-point ride on Hi Lo Pro Rodeo’s Redzilla to win the four-man round March 24 at the Silver Spurs Arena. Hooper’s score broke the RAM NCFR bareback riding record of 91 points set by Cimmaron Gerke on Kesler Rodeo’s Smiling Cat in 2004 in Pocatello, Idaho. The record amount of money earned by a cowboy in multiple events at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. Josh Peek earned that much in 2016 at the RAM NCFR in Kissimmee, Fla. He also won the all-around title by competing in steer wrestling and tie-down roping. The combined amount of money earned by bull rider Garrett Smith ($29,711, including ground money), and team ropers Clay Smith ($25,207) and Jake Long ($25,207) at the 2019 RAM NCFR. They were the top three individual money earners in Kissimmee.

Feild, who won four consecutive world titles from 2011-14, had an 87-point ride on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Nutrena’s Killer Bee but was injured moments later. Feild, 32, was treated at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin and was

released from the hospital April 2. Feild’s older brother, Shad, drove Kaycee home and they arrived in Genola, Utah, April 3. “Rest is so important for him, he needs to get a lot of rest and take it easy,” Kaycee’s wife, Stephanie, said. “Our community has been so wonderful. They came in and

completely cleaned our house and cleaned out our fridge and stocked it with new food and smoothie stuff for him and soups. They have been so amazing.” Stephanie elaborated on Kaycee’s condition in an interview with ProRodeo Sports News April 1. “He said what happened is the horse kind of got away from him, and he went to sit up and when he sat up it jerked him forward, and the last thing he remembered is he whacked his face and that’s what caused the fracture in his jaw. It knocked him out, and when he hit the ground he got kicked by the horse in the head.”

Feild placed second at Rodeo Austin and earned $7,050. As of April 1, he was leading the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $115,965. “Kaycee said that everything happens for a reason, and there’s a reason he needs to be home,” Stephanie said. “He knows he needs to take things slow for a while.”

PRCA Executive Council announced for two-year terms The following PRCA Executive Council members were elected or re-elected and will serve two-year terms beginning April 1, as announced by PRCA CEO George Taylor. The newly elected members are Josh Edwards (arena pickup men/specialty act/labor), Cody Rostockyj (bull riding representative), Matt Sherwood (team roping representative), John Franzen (general membership representative to the com- petition committee), Steve Sutton (stock contractor representative) and Jerry Dorenkamp (stock contractor representative). The re-elected members are Larry McConnell (rodeo committee representative $20,000.01-$50,000), Mike Mathis (contract personnel – at large category), David Morehead (stock contractor representative), David Petty (rodeo committee representative $10,000-$20,000), Eva Chadwick (secretaries/timers), Caleb Bennett (bareback riding representative) and Jerome Schneeberger (tie-down roping representative).
