Most of the major clubs in our area, including Admiral’s Cove, Jonathan’s Landing, PGA and Ballenisles have begun or completed conversion to these new systems and report that maintenance quality and costs have improved significantly. It is our current plan to convert two of our courts to such a system over the coming off season in order to evaluate the level of improvement in both the quality and the cost efficiency of maintaining these courts. If the test is successful we will begin a program of converting additional courts at a pace compatible with our overall capital budget plan. Finally, I want to give kudos to Tikky and her staff for their creative thinking in converting one of the outlying tennis courts into a permanent pickleball/badminton court. Haven’t heard of or played pickleball? Lot’s folks have discovered this fun fam- ily game…come out to the court behind the green on 11 North and see what it is all about.

I am happy to report that tennis is very alive and well at French- man’s Creek. Usage of our courts remains at a high level, even during the off season. Our tennis playing population continues to enjoy consistently competitive games, thanks to the tireless efforts of Tikky, Kristen and all of the staff. If you want a game, they will get it for you! This year’s holiday tennis tournament and clinic programs set new participation records and everyone particularly enjoyed the doubles competitions involving grandparents, parents and kids playing together as families. Tennis continues to be one of the highlights of the holiday family program thanks to Tikky and Kristen. With 25+ year old courts, maintenance is a constant focus for the tennis staff. One of the most difficult challenges is to pro- vide consistent, efficient and cost effective irrigation of the courts with our current above-ground sprinkler system, which is outdated in view of today’s new underground court watering technology.

Tennis anyone?
