Jim Harbaugh begins his second year as the University of San Diego head football coach and quarterbacks coach. Last year he directed the Toreros to an overall mark of 7-4, including 5 straight wins to end the season. USD finished 3- 1 in the Pioneer Football League North Division, good for a 2nd place finish . Five of his players were recognized as All-America; twelve were recognized as All-PFL; eight players were selected to the PFL All– Academic Team; and quarterback Todd Mortensen, the PFL co-Offensive Player of the Year, signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions. Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback who played 15 seasons in the league, played locally with the Chargers between 1999-2000. The 41-year-old Harbaugh, who resides in nearby Coronado, played in 177 league games with 140 starts since originally entering the NFL as a first round pick by the Chicago Bears in 1987. For his career, he completed 2,305 of 3,918 passes for 26,288 yards with 129 touchdowns. Harbaugh played seven seasons for the Bears and passed for a career-high 3, 12 1 yards for Chicago in 199 1.

He played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1994-97 and in 1995, achieved career highs in completion percentage (63.7) and touchdown passes ( 17). While with the Colts he led the team to the AFC Championship game; was voted to the Pro Bowl; was named the 1995 Comeback Player of the Year and the AFC Player of the Year; and was runner-up in the NFL MVP voting. Harbaugh played for Baltimore in 1998, and fo llowing his two-year stint with the Chargers closed out his NFL career with Carolina in 200 I. In January, 2005, Jim was inducted into the Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor. Harbaugh, one of the most successful and popular players in the club's 2 1-year Indianapolis era, played from 1994-97 with the Colts. He was inducted at halftime of the Colts-Denver Wild Card playoff game. Jim started for the majority of his Colts career, completing 746 of 1,230 passes for 8,705 yards and 49 touchdowns. He won the NFL passer rating title in 1995 at 100.7. Harbaugh joins the late Robert lrsay, Bill Brooks, Ted Marchibroda and Chris Hinton in the Colts Ring of Honor. Harbaugh was a four-year letterman at the University of Michigan and finished his college career in the top five in passing attempts, completions, completion percentage, passing yards and touchdown passes. Playing for Bo Schembechler, he was a three-year starter and led the Wolverines to appearances in the Fiesta, Holiday, and Rose Bowl games. As a senior in 1986 he guided Michigan to a No. 2 national ranking while earning Big Ten Player of the Year honors and finishing third in the Heisman balloting. Over his final eight seasons in the NFL (1994-200 I), Jim was an NCAA-certified unpaid assistant coach under his father, Jack, at Western Kentucky University. Serving as an offensive consultant, he scouted and recruited high school student-athletes throughout several states including Florida, Indi ana and

Illinois. He was involved in recruiting 17 players on WKU 's 2002 1-AA National Championship team. His dad was a football coach for 41 years, including 14-years as Head Coach at Western Kentucky. His brother.John, is currently Special Teams Coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles; and his brother-in-law, Tom Crean, is Head Basketball Coach of Marquette University. Harbaugh has been very active in Community Service ventures. He has been actively in– volved with the Harbaugh Hill Foundation, the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Chi ldren (Indiana University), Western Kentucky University, the Jim Harbaugh Foundation, the Uhlich's Children's Home and the Children's Miracle Network. Jim and his wife, Miah, have two sons, Jay and James, Jr., and one daughter, Grace. They reside in Coronado.

DAVE ADOLPH Assistant Head Coach Defensive Coordinator & Linebackers Coach Dave Adolph enters his second season at

USD, but his first in a full-time capacity where he will be Assistant Head Coach. He will also be the program 's Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach. Dave returned to coaching last season follow– ing a 37-year coaching career that ended in January, 2000 when he retired from his post with the Kansas City Chiefs as assistant head coach/linebackers coach. He spent 21 years in the NFL ranks, includ- ing two tours of duty with the Chiefs. He served as the team 's defensive coordinator from 1992-1994

and worked as the club's assistant head coach/linebacker coach in 1999.

This respected defensive expert spent his entire pro coaching career (21 years) in the AFC, including 14 years as a defensive coordinator and 12 seasons in the AFC West, making 11 career playoff appearances in the process. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Adolph spent two years ('97-98) as linebackers coach for the Oakland Raiders. He signed on with Oakland after a two-year stint ('95-96) as defensiver coordinator for the San Diego Chargers. During his three-year tenure as Kansas City's defensive coordinator from '92- 94, the Chiefs made three straight playoff appearances and allowed an average of just 18.1 points per game. A native of Akron, Ohio, Adolph originally came to Kansas City after spending three seasons ('89-91) as defensive coordinator for the L.A. Raiders. He spent the '86-88 seasons as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns. Adolph began his NFL career

as the Browns defensive line coach in 1979. He took over the club's linebackers in '81 before assuming duties as defensive coordinator midway through the '84 season when Marty Schottenheimer was named head coach. He then spent one season ('85) as an assistant for San Diego before rejoining the Browns in ' 86. A 16-year coaching veteran on the collegiate level, Adolph worked with the legendary Woody Hayes at Ohio State from '77-78. He also coached at Illinois ('73-76), Kentucky ('69-72), Connecticut ('65-68) and his alma mater ofAkron ('63-64). An all-conference guard and linebacker for the Zips, Adolph spent three years ('59-6 1) as a commissioned officer in the Air Force before beginning his coaching career at Cleveland's Shaw High School in '62. TIM DREVNO Offensive Coordinator & Offensive Line Coach Tim Drevno begins his third year with the Toreros where he will again be the Offensive

Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. Last year the Torero offense averaged 432.4 yards of total offense per game, ranking them 9th in the nation.The Toreros also ranked 11th in scoring offense (36. l) and 12th in passing offense (275.4). In 2003 he directed USDs' west coast offense to 483 .3 yards per game and a PFL best 39.9 points per game. Tim came to USD from the University of Idaho where he was the Offensive Line Coach for three seasons (2000 to 2002). The Vandals offense ranked 6th in the nation in 200 l and 8th in 2000. Prior to Idaho he gained coaching experience at San Jose

State as offensive line coach (1999-2000); with the UNLV Rebel s as running backs coach (1998); at Montana State as running backs coach ( I993-98); and at Cal State Fullerton as a graduate assistant (1991-92). It was at Montana State where he launched his coaching career with a five-year stint and showed his versatility by coaching running backs, tight ends and the offensive line. Drevno was a two-year starter at offensive guard at Cal State Fullerton and a member of the Titan Football Pride Club. He played with the Titans after a two-year all – Mission Conference career at El Camino College. While Drevno was at El Camino, the team won the 1987 national championship. A native of Torrance, Calif., he graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 1992 with a degree in Criminal Justice. Drevno and hi s wife, Shannon, have three children - McKenna, Zachary and Baylee.

Assistant Coaches

LANCE ANDERSON Defensive Line, Recruiting Coordinator

LanceAnderson is in his first year with the USD football program where he will be the defensive line coach and head recruiting coordinator. Anderson, who comes to the Torero program from Utah State, brings a wealth of coaching experience. This past year he was the outside linebackers coach for the Aggies and head coach Mike Dennehy. Prior to Utah State he served as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Saint

Mary 's College (Calif.) in 2003. Under his guidance the Gaels had four defensive players earn I-AA Inde– pendent honors as safety Weston Borba was first-team selection, linebackers Ray Mike and Heath Villarreal were second-team picks and linebacker Anthony Woodards earned honorable mention recognition. Before spending one season at Saint Mary's, Lance worked four years at Bucknell. He spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons as the school's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator after working with the tight ends and offensive line in 1999 and 2000. He also has previous coaching stops at Idaho State (1997 & 1998), and with the Mobile (Ala.) Admirals of the Regional Football League in 1999. Born and raised in Rupert, Idaho, Lance played high school football , basketball and track before walking on to the football team at Brigham Young University in 1989. After serving an LDS mission, he walked on at Idaho State in 1993 and 1994. He graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in biology in 1996. He and his wife Sherri have three children - Aubrey, Jaren and Braden. ED LAMB Special Teams Coordinator & Secondary Ed Lamb is in his first year with the USD football program. He takes over as the team's second– ary coach, and will also be special team's coordinator. Lamb comes to San Diego after a three-year stint at the University of Idaho where he was the Vandals defensive coordinator. Prior to Idaho he held coaching positions with BYU and Redlands University. At Redlands he

was the defensive coordinator for three seasons with the Bulldogs winning two Southern California In– tercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (1999 & 2000). During his time as coordinator with Redlands, the Bulldogs led the SCIAC in overall defense while going a combined 21-6. Not only does Lamb have the coaching heritage, he learned defense first hand as a player at BYU where he played safety, then moved to linebacker and eventually wound up at defensive end. Lamb said after three years as defensive coordinator at Redlands, which followed one season as a graduate assistant,

he was ready to move up the college football ladder. BYU, his alma mater, offered the chance. Lamb earned his master 's of science in education in 1998 at Redlands. He and his wife, Sarah, have a daughter, Anna. Lamb is a graduate of 1992 Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California. DELVAUGHN ALEXANDER Running Backs DelVaughn Alexander is in his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the running

backs. The past two seasons he was at Oregon State as receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped coordinate what many have called the program's top recruiting class in 2004 and followed that up with another banner class in 2005. In 2004, his receivers set several records and were among the national leaders. Mike Hass became the school 's single season record holder for receptions with 86 and continues his climb up several career record charts. Alexander was first associated with head coach Mike Riley in 1993, when Alexander attended USC and played wide receiver. Alexander played two seasons for the Trojans, lettering both years. He also lettered two years in track as a high jumper. Alexander began his professional career in 1995 at USC as the assistant video coordinator,

before moving to an offensive assi!.tant position under then Head Coach John Robinson in 1996 and '97. He then moved to UNLV in 1998 as wide receivers coach before rejoining Riley in 1999 with the San Diego Chargers as an offensive assistant. During the '98 season UNLV receiver Nate Turner was selected to the All-Mountain West Conference Team after leading the league as a senior in receptions, yardage and touchdowns. Alexander returned to UNLV in 2000 to work for Robinson, where he stayed three seasons as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. Under his guidance, Rebel quarterback Jason Thomas earned the MWC 's Newcomer of the Year after accounting for 25 touchdowns. He also coached 2002 all-league receiver Earvin Johnson. Prior to arriving at USC as a player, Alexander attended West Los Angeles College. He earned two letters and was a first team All-Western States Conference selection as a receiver. Alexander also earned two letters in track and was named to the all-league team as a high jumper. Alexander is a 1995 graduate of USC with a bachelor's degree in history. He also is a graduate of West Los Angeles College. DelVaughn and his wife, Star, have two sons, J.D. and Jalen.

Assistant Coaehes

7 MIKE RISH Senior Offensive Asst./Receivers Mike Rish is beginning his 22nd season on the Torero staff. He returns as the Senior Offensive Assistant where he oversees the receivers, something he has done for twenty of the past twenty-one Torero seasons. Mike played for USD from 1979-83 where he posted career numbers that make him one of the best receivers ever to play at USD -- he ranks third all-time with 101 receptions, 18 receiving touchdowns and 1,722 receiving yards. He held the school marks in all three career receiving departments from 1983 through 1997. He was passed up by two Torero receivers he has coached - Dylan Ching in 1999, and most recently by Adam Hannula last season. In 1983 he was selected the team's scholar-athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. In the Toreros' nationally-televised game between Occidental in 1982, Rish was named the CBS Chevrolet Player of the Game. Mike graduated from USD with an Accounting degree in 1984. He is the Vice President for Secondary Marketing for Guild Mortgage Company in San Diego. JIMMIE DOUGHERTY Tight Ends Jimmie Dougherty enters his second year at USD as an assistant coach. This season he moves to the position of tight ends coach after coaching the receivers in 2004. He came to USD from Illinois Wesleyan University where he was the secondary coach since 2002. Dur– ing his time in Bloomington, Illinois he assisted the team with defensive game plan preparation, offensive scout team, scouting, recruiting and off-season conditioning. For two summers (2002-2003) he also worked summer camps at the University of Illinois with the quarterback camp. Dougherty was a three-year letterman in football at the University of Missouri (1999-2001). He started during his sophomore season throwing for 1,430 yards and 7 touchdowns. He suffered a career ending injury in

2000. He was recruited out of Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Illinois where he was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He was named an All-State quarterback by Chicago Sun Times and Champaign News Gazette. He played for his father, Tim Dougherty, with team being the 2001 and 2002 Illinois Class 7-A State Runner-up. JOHN MORTON Passing Game Coordinator & Wide Receivers

John Morton is in his first year with the Toreros where he will be the Passing Game Coordinator and wide receivers coach. He comes to USD from the NFL's Oakland Raiders where last season was his 7' h year and first as tight ends coach. During the 2002 & 2003 campaigns he was senior offensive assistant. The 35-year-old Morton spent the 1997 season working in the Oakland Raiders player personnel department after having played for the World League's Frankfurt Galaxy during the spring of 1997. He originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted rookie free agent in 1993 and spent part of the '93 and '94 seasons on the Silver and Black practice squad. Morton also spent time with the Green Bay Packers in 1993. Morton was in training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995 and with the Raiders in 1996. He also played for the Canadian Football League's Toronto franchise in both 1995 and '96.

Morton played collegiately at Western Michigan after transferring from Grand Rapids Community College. Despite playing only two seasons at Western Michigan, Morton finished his college career ranked 10th on the school 's all-time receiving list with 78 catches. He also placed eighth in receiving yards (1,278) and was an all-conference receiver as a senior. The Pontiac, Michigan native was an all-league receiver at Avondale High in Auburn Hills, Michigan as a senior. His wife 's name is Shannon and they have one daughter, Tierney Rose. KADE RANNINGS Defensive Assistant

Kade Rannings is in his first year with the Toreros where he will be defensive assistant for the Torero coaching staff. Rannings comes to USD from Oregon State University where this past spring he was a gradu– ate assistant with the Beavers. During the 2004 & 2003 seasons he was a student assistant at OSU and assisted with the wide receivers. During the 2001 and 2002 campaigns with Oregon State, Kade was a volunteer and assisted with the efforts of the recruiting coordinator. A 2005 graduate of Oregon State University, this past spring Kade earned his B.S. degree in Physical Education (Sports Science). From Albany, Oregon, Kade competed 3 years on varsity high school football at running back. He is single and resides in San Diego.

USO senior running back Evan Hamey, who survived a freak accidenton July 30th thatended his season, appeared as planned just three days after being released from the hospital at Sports at Lunch. Harney and USO coach Jim Harbaugh spoke onAug. 4th at the San Diego Hall of Champions about the upcoming season. He could have easily called in sick, but Evan Hamey wanted to fulfill his obligation to talk USO football. Five days earlier the Toreros' Division I-AA All-American running back had survived a freak accident that had left him hospitalized for three days. But Hamey arrived as scheduled with USO coach Jim Harbaugh Thursday afternoon at the San Diego Hall of Champions for Sports at Lunch. Talk about comeback stories. "l' m blessed to be alive and not paralyzed," said Hamey, the 2004 Mid-Major Offensive Back of the Year from Fallbrook High. In two seasons at USO, since giving up a baseball schol– arship at UC Irvine, the 6-foot- l, 220-pounder has established Torero career records in rushing yards (2,809), attempts (588) and touchdowns (35). This was to be his third and final season as USO hopes to improve on its 7-4 record last year in its first season under Jim Harbaugh, the former NFL and Chargers quarterback. Harney said one of his first questions for doctors in the hospital was whether he would be ready for the start of fall camp on August 9th. "They looked at me with a concerned expression and told me it will be six months before I can have any contact," Hamey said "This is one of the most shattering things to happen to me. I love sports and football so much. To have that taken away from me with the snap of your fingers is shattering, butI'm blessed to walk away from the accident. We'II still have a great season if I'm not here. We've got an incred– ible coach and incredible program with good people behind it." Hamey said the freak accident happened Saturday night near his Linda Vista apartment. He opened the door to help friends out of his car when he lost his footing in the dark and a nylon fence behind him gave way. He tumbled 30 feet down the hill. His athleticism and physical fitness were both a blessing and a curse as he tumbled to the bottom. Instead of coming to a rest at the retaining wall, he was regaining his feet when momentum carried him over the wall and to another LO foot fall, with his head hitting the concrete. Harbaugh, while he spoke at the Sports at Lunch, talked about how Hamey was in top physical shape and his offseason training helped him survive the accident. But Hamey was also fortunate that two EMTs, emergency medical technicians, lived in an apartment at the bottom of the hill. They
