Between We

It is precisely the Ocean that holds the world together. Water, which is itself formless and without a second shore, not because it is shoreless, but simply because no other shore exists. There is nothing at all there. In the beginning was silence and not the word. When the summer returns to itself, the days float slowly along the black river, and the rain stands beside the wooden bridge. The sprouts of the evening’s streets emerging out of its bottom. Why should we do anything with our dreams when they can simply be observed. Lizards squint but snakes never shut their eyes, not even onto death. In the beginning was autumn and not the word. An instant is over only once it is remembered. A voice unanswered – without an echo? – its sound is more transparent and distant. _____
