Dance 101 Attention homeschoolers and half-day kindergarteners, this class is for you! Come learn the basics in all different disciplines of dance. Dance Party! Open dance! For 45 minutes come to ask dance questions, learn new moves, let off steam and dance it out. Dancers can make up their own moves or learn some from the instructor. Hawaiian Hula The hula is the dance from Hawaii where the story of the culture and history is expressed through graceful hand movements. Instructor Shasta Puanani Hud, born and raised in Hawaii, will teach the hula and share the Hawaiian culture! Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Hip Hop This class will teach beginner to intermediate level hip hop moves, while focusing on developing a sense of rhythm through hip hop choreography. Irish Step Dance Learn the traditional Irish Jig, Reels, Hornpipes and team figure dances. The McNulty School of Irish Dance program is designed to challenge each dancer to achieve his or her personal best, while helping individuals develop concentration skills, coordination and self-confidence. Dancers begin learning solo and team dances in Irish soft shoes and then progress to more complex soft-shoe and heavy-shoe steps over time. Class attire includes black t-shirts or leotards, black shorts, white socks, and Irish, jazz, ballet or light gym shoes. No long pants of any kind. No refunds once class has begun. All levels of Irish dance with the exception of beginning classes require the instructor’s recommendation. To enroll in a heavy-shoe class, you must be enrolled in a soft-shoe class during the same session. Jazz I & II Put classic jazz moves to cool music. This type of dance is energetic and fun! Dancers learn basic jazz techniques including jazz turns and the art of suspension: moving through positions instead of stopping and balancing in them. Modern Modern dance gives students the opportunity to explore their own dance style outside of a more traditional ballet or jazz class. Modern explores rhythm and space, and emphasizes floor work, flow and expressive movement.
